		<abstract>THIS PAPER EVALUATES THE ACCURACY OF SHUTTLE RADAR TOPOGRAPHIC MISSION (SRTM) DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL (DEM) BASED ON A METHOD THAT CONSIDERS SOME PARAMETERS WHICH CAN AFFECT THE QUALITY OF THE INTERFEROMETRIC DEM (SLOPE, ASPECT AND LAND USE/LAND COVER). THE BENCHMARKS USED IN THIS WORK WERE A SET OF GPS POINTS SURVEYED WITH STATIC RELATIVE POSITIONING. IT WAS ALSO EMPLOYED A DEM EXTRACTED FROM SEVERAL TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS AT SCALE OF 1:10.000 IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE SLOPE AND ASPECT OF THE STUDY AREA. THE LAND USE/LAND COVER WAS CLASSIFIED FROM AN ETM+/LANDSAT-7 IMAGERY. IT CAN BE CONCLUDED AFTER STATISTICAL ANALYSIS THAT SRTM DEM IS AFFECTED BY SLOPE AND ASPECT. THE SRTM DEM ALSO OVERESTIMATES THE ELEVATION ON THIS EXPERIMENT.</abstract>
